Thanks Haken, Michael Choy, One Carnation. So this is a picture of only one care package, but you get the idea.
My wonderful niece
She's just a few months old here, but basically I left Hawaii to go help my sis with this monkey.
Made my own spam musubis
It was strange but one of the things I really missed while being on the mainland was spam musubis. Yes I could make them, but something about the convenience of having an ubiquitous savory snack that wasn't chips, a bagel or a chain fast food thing, made me really miss Hawaii.
I went nuts with my maker side to distract me from my boredom, I learned how to do things with a Raspberry PI and even stuck it inside of this rubber ducky. It was my raspiduck or duckpi never did settle on a name.
I finally had a bed
It was a sofa bed, but it was my bed.
learned to cook more things
Making asian fried chicken here.
Road trips in the fog
Unlike the islands where if you drove for 3 or 4 hours you'd be back where you started (except Big Island). On the mainland one hour of driving was normal and so there was a lot of road trips.
Sights around the neighborhood
I went on daily walks, and saw many different things.
I grew a beard
Because why not? Also the monkey and I wore sunglasses in this pic.
Keeping Hawaii close
Stuff like this, it didn't scream Hawaii but if you knew and quite a few times while I was cofficing at my local Starbucks. An 808er would see my laptop and start talking to me. It was a fun way to represent without fully wearing a "look I'm from Hawaii" logoed wear.
Seasons are awesome
Experiencing seaons again was great, Hawaii is beautiful but seasons are awesome.
Real cherry blossoms
Whenever i had friends in town, I would go and meet them in Seattle and spend at least the day with them. It was always a highlight of my day, week, month (or even your year... I'll be there for youuuuuu).
Seafood was cheap
Lots and lots of crabs
Something about being cold, seeing snow (sometimes) made Christmas seem more Christmas to me.
Being Uncle Ricky
Thats what I mostly did up there, I was uncle Ricky to the monkey.
